Connecting art and art-making to conflict transformation, Law Professor Michelle LeBaron will explore how and why arts practices generate transformative change in public spaces, organizations and between individuals. These practices are useful to the development of mediators working in private and public practice, HR professionals and facilitators of groups.
Over the past fifteen years, Michelle has partnered with artists to learn about how they help shift conflict. Artists know that conflict is physical and felt, spiritual and sensed as well as cognitive and analytic. Artists also know something of alchemy—not the turning of lead into gold—but the turning of ourselves, through our experiences, into wiser and more thoughtful participants in human being as well as human doing. Participants will be invited to reflect on examples from Professor LeBaron's work in South Africa and from their own experience.
