Department of Electronic Enginering Champions STEM Learning at ESB Science Blast 2025
Maynooth University proudly supported ESB Science Blast 2025, an exciting STEM education programme designed to ignite curiosity and inspire thousands of primary school students. Organised by the RDS, Science Blast is one of the largest events of its kind, bringing hands-on science learning to young minds.
This year’s Dublin showcase took place from March 3rd to 6th at the RDS, welcoming around 12,000 students and teachers. As a key partner, the Department of EE played an active role in making the event a success.
Dr. Amy Fahy, from Maynooth University, led the coordination of judging, with 15 staff members volunteering as judges—including two from the Electronic Engineering Department. The university also contributed an interactive exhibition, co-hosted by the EE's Centre for Ocean Energy Research and the School of Business IRESI group, and staffed by enthusiastic EE postgraduate students and faculty.
Reflecting on the event’s impact, Dr. Fahy shared:
"Through years of collaboration with ESB Science Blast, we've seen firsthand how hands-on, inquiry-based projects foster a lifelong interest in STEM. Beyond the skills they gain, the most rewarding part is seeing how much the children love it!"
At the heart of ESB Science Blast is a simple yet powerful idea: entire primary school classes explore a scientific question of their choice and present their findings at the showcase. STEM judges engage with students, offering valuable feedback and encouragement, helping to shape the next generation of innovators.
Maynooth University remains committed to supporting STEM education and inspiring young minds—one experiment at a time.
