Keynote address delivered by Dr. Graham Heaslip to the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) on Humanitarian Aid Response to the Philippines

Dr. Graham Heaslip delivered a keynote address to the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) on Thursday January 16th as part of the CILT Workshop on the Humanitarian Aid Response to the Philippines  http://cilt.ie/events/jan-dec-2014/783.html?task=view.  Speakers at the event ranged from Irish Aid, military and third part logistics providers (3PL). Dr Heaslip gave an overview of humanitarian response to Typhoon Haiyan and outlined a way forward for improving the humanitarian response to disasters.
 
The workshop considered the part that the logistics and transport sector can play in response to humanitarian crises throughout the Philippines. The workshop considered However the challenges faced by aid organisations in getting food and equipment to the epicentres of major disasters. Some challenges addressed included: transport and logistics problems due to communications problems, poor distribution networks, destroyed or damaged infrastructure. This session examined the critical contribution which transport and logistics made to an effective humanitarian response.
