Maynooth University welcomes His Excellency Vincent Guérend, the esteemed French Ambassador to Ireland

This week, Maynooth University had the distinct honour of extending a warm welcome to His Excellency Vincent Guérend, the esteemed French Ambassador to Ireland. The visit, marked by a formal welcome reception from Professor Eeva Leinonen and Dr. Fergus Ryan, Head of the School of Law and Criminology, was a testament to the enduring partnership between Maynooth University and UCLy Lyon.
 
Ambassador Guérend delivered a captivating keynote address, delving into the intricate intersections of law and diplomacy, to a captivated audience comprising of students, esteemed faculty members, Lyon colleagues, and distinguished guests. The event not only celebrated the longstanding collaboration between Maynooth and UCLy but also marked the new BCL Law and Languages programme, a collaborative effort between the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
 
Highlighting the significance of this occasion, the visit was an opportunity to reflect on over a decade of fruitful partnership with UCLy Lyon and to foster deeper connections with colleagues and students from Lyon. As a symbol of our appreciation for this enduring collaboration, we proudly presented a student academic achievement award to Ms Lauryn Manon Marie Hustache. The proceedings were further enriched by a visit to the Russell Library, providing a glimpse into the rich heritage and academic excellence that define Maynooth University. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Guérend and his delegation for joining us in Maynooth this week and to all individuals and institutions involved in nurturing this invaluable partnership over the years.
