Maynooth University Department of Law staff were thrilled to welcome all of the new undergraduate law students at the Department's annual Law Welcome Day.

Taking place last Friday, 18 September 2015, the Welcome Day consisted of a series of talks and presentations to welcome new students onto the LLB, the BCL (Law & Accounting), the BCL (Law & Arts), and the BCL (Law & Business), as well as those students who are undertaking law as part of the Joint Arts programme.

Key note speakers on the day were Noeline Blackwell, Director General of FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres), and Paul Reynolds, Crime Correspondent for RTÉ, who each imparted very profound and inspiring words to the Department's new students. Additionally, current law students at the University Conor Forde (LLB 2018), Thomas Costello (LLB 2018), Caoimhe Hough (LLB (Clinical) 2016), and Paul Brady (LLB 2016) gave incoming students a master class in mooting and provided some useful advice and tips.

Awards were also awarded to current law students

  • Liam Gleeson was awarded Most Outstanding First Year Student 2014-2015, a prize which is sponsored by Bloomsbury Professional Ireland.
  • Gemma Hayes was awarded Highest Award in Legal Writing 2014-2015, a prize which is sponsored by Maxwells Solicitors.
