Julie Douglas, B.A. 2013
My name is Julie Douglas and I chose to study French in Maynooth University as the staff were very supportive and informative regarding the course details as well as wanting to explore my love for French language and culture in a growing University close to Dublin. My experience in French through Arts was a positive one and the language training I received has meant that I am now confident working and living in France as an Irish graduate.
During my degree, I worked as an English Assistant Teacher in the North of France and I spent time in Quebec as an Au Pair; both experiences were very beneficial for my oral French skills and also personally enriching. My involvement in the French Society was a particular highlight, adding an important social aspect to balance and complement my studies. In Summer 2013, I was selected to be a Bilingual Receptionist in a Four star Apart'hotel in the West of France. This turned out to be a fantastic experience both for my language and professional skills.
I currently work with a French Technology School and a separate Language Academy advancing French students and professionals in their personal English language acquisition. In 2014, I plan to apply for a Candian Work Visa to revisit Québec and return to complete a Masters degree in France.
