Fiona Lyddy

I hold qualifications in psychology from University College Cork (BA, PhD) and in law from the Honorable Society of King’s Inns (Degree of Barrister at Law, Dip. Media Law). I am a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Maynooth University and have served as Adjunct Professor in the School of Applied Psychology at University College Cork. I was Head of the Department of Psychology (2008-13) and Dean of Faculty and Vice President for Science and Engineering (2013-2019) at Maynooth University. I was appointed to the role of Director of Graduate Research in January 2023.  I am a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland and was founding chair of the Society's Division of Teachers and Researchers in Psychology. 

My research is concerned with the psychology of language, in particular reading and writing, bilingual education and how language shapes misconceptions in educational contexts. I am also interested in understanding how technology is influencing language use, and cognition more generally, including issues related to cognitive privacy.
