The training course for the public sector will be on Tuesday, 4th March 2025, from 9.30 to 12:30 pm.

Course content:
Understand energy terminology and the challenges and opportunities facing Ireland and the Public Sector. Gain the confidence to contribute to these challenges. This half-day introductory course aims to teach basic energy terminology and concepts in plain English. It will provide context to Ireland's energy challenges and opportunities and corresponding Public Sector obligations and introduce commonly used terms, units of measure and technologies. The course will introduce renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency opportunities around building fabric and commonly used equipment such as boilers, lighting and transport. The intent is to provide attendees with knowledge to understand their energy consumption and confidence to contribute to improving it.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is specifically designed for non-technical public sector staff with very little knowledge or experience in energy management, who have a minor involvement, but it is not their core role.
The training course for the public sector will be from 09:30 am to 12.30 Tuesday 11th of February 2025.

Course content: How will our organisation deliver and grow its services to a 10% greater population with 51% less carbon emissions by 2030? Understand carbon terminology and the challenges of decarbonising public services. Gain an insight into where to start and how to focus efforts on energy-related emissions. The language and concepts around measuring and tracking carbon emissions can seem complex, e.g. Decarbonisation, 51% greenhouse gas reduction by 2030, Net zero emissions by 2050, Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
This three-hour introductory training course will demystify carbon terminology and concepts using Plain English. It will provide context to the emissions challenges and opportunities facing Ireland and corresponding Public Sector obligations and introduce commonly used terms, units of measure and reporting approaches. The course does not focus on design or technical issues but provides a fundamental understanding of carbon and energy-related emissions.
At the end of this course, you will
1. Understand the context and language of carbon and emissions
2. Understand our energy-related carbon budget and the carbon reporting landscape
3. Understand where to start and how to focus efforts on energy-related emissions.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is specifically designed for non-technical public sector staff with very little knowledge or experience in carbon management who wants to learn the basics of carbon emissions, climate change, and climate action, with a focus on the importance of energy and energy efficiency.
This 1-hour Online Briefing Session on SEAI's Energy MAP (Management Action Plan) provides an overview of a structured approach to Energy Management with a focus on targets and legal obligations. It includes examples of senior management leadership in Public Sector Organisations in communicating and delivering energy management and climate action.
Energy management training provides participants with the broad knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage and monitor the organisation’s energy use.

The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education are delighted to announce that the fully online Open Course Education for Sustainability will run from February 2025. Atlantic Technological University, Technological University Dublin and South East Technological University will deliver this course.
This free 6-week course is available to all staff currently working in tertiary education in the Republic of Ireland, subject to availability of places. Additional facilitator training is included so you can become a facilitator of this course and run it in your own institution. A further commitment of five learner hours will be required for the facilitator add-on, in addition to attendance at two extra webinars over 2 weeks. The course includes asynchronous work, weekly live sessions, and peer group learning. Individual pre-work typically comprises short videos, reading and quizzes to complete before the weekly live webinars. Interactive 1-hour live webinars focus on specific topics, including case studies, guest speakers, and group discussions. Peer Triads allow you to learn from and work with your peers.
The One UN Climate Change Learning Partnership (UN CC: Learn) is a joint initiative of more than 30 multilateral organizations helping countries achieve climate change action both through general climate literacy and applied skills development. UN CC:Learn provides strategic advice and quality learning resources to help people, governments and businesses to understand, adapt, and build resilience to climate change. UN CC:Learn is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
