The Maynooth International Engineering College (MIEC) held its 2024 Commencement Ceremony at Fuzhou University, celebrating the strong partnership between Maynooth University (MU) and Fuzhou University (FZU) and marking the start of an exciting academic year.
Vice President Yang Huanghao of Fuzhou University opened the ceremony with a welcome address, followed by a keynote speech from Professor Patrick McCole, Vice President International of MU. Professor McCole emphasised the importance of international collaboration in tackling global challenges, emphasising MIEC’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with technical expertise, as well as analytical and innovative thinking.
The Vice President also acknowledged the achievements of MIEC’s graduates, many of whom have gone on to pursue further studies at prestigious universities such as Cambridge University, Imperial College London, and Columbia University, or have secured roles at leading companies within China and beyond:. "This success speaks volumes about the quality of education and training they received at MIEC," he stated, highlighting the programme's impact on student readiness for the modern work force and real-world challenges.
Student representatives Zhang Juxin (Class of 2022) and Li Xiaotong (Class of 2024) then delivered speeches, sharing their experiences and aspirations as MIEC students. Their reflections underscored the supportive and transformative educational environment fostered through this unique partnership.
Following these addresses, Professor Joseph Timoney, MIEC Executive Vice-Dean, presented the 2023/2024 student awards, celebrating academic achievements within MIEC.
