As reported in the Journal of Music, we are very excited to hear that Ryan Sheridan and William Holmes, two first-year Music students, have been included in the shortlist of fifteen musicians for this year's Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal Competition.
Now in its twelfth year, the competition is an annual traditional music competition founded by Peadar Ó Riada, musician and presenter of the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta programme Cuireadh chun Ceoil. The event focuses on a different instrument each year: this year’s competition is for metal reed instruments (including box, melodeon, mouth organ and concertina) and will be held on Friday 11 March at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork. The winner will receive the Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal and a prize of €2,500.
The competition will be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on Friday 11 March from 7pm, and also on the Raidió na Gaeltachta Facebook page.
