The NCG partners with the Departments of Mathematics & Statistics and Computer Science to offer the full-time taught MSc in Data Science and Analytics (Level 9). This 12-month course aims to provide students with a well-rounded knowledge of all aspects of data science, including data structures, analysis, visualisation, modelling, and conducting a research project. Uniquely, this programme embeds spatial data science methods and theory from the start, and students have the option to pursue a spatial “pathway” that includes instruction from Maynooth University’s NCG (National Centre for Geocomputation) in geocomputation using R and Python, geographical information systems (GIS), and the design and execution of a spatially-informed data analytics project using Python. Students also have the option of taking the dissertation in the NCG, supervised by one of the NCG faculty on the course.
For those interested in a Higher Diploma (Level 8) qualification, the HDip in Data Analytics offers a similar opportunity to obtain a broad-based and spatially-informed data science education suited to the needs of today’s employers.
Alternatively, for those interested in pursuing a career in research or academia, the NCG also offers a PhD in Geocomputation (Level 10). Given the prominence of NCG as a global leader in spatial data science research and the contributions of the faculty to the theoretical and methodological development of the field in the areas of geocomputation, big data, smart cities, spatial machine learning, and geographically-weighted regression (GWR), the PhD in Geocomputation offers a unique opportunity for postgraduate study.
