Health Geoinformatics

There are many different geographies which are linked to health research. Health geoinformatics uses geographical techniques for investigating spatial epidemiology, for optimising the locations of healthcare services, for providing an evidence base from health outcomes, and for enabling a critical approach to health policy. This is conducted largely through our Centre for Health Geoinformatics (www.chg.ie). Recent projects include the development of mortality rates for appropriate areal units within Ireland, community outreach raising awareness of type 2 diabetes, and building capacity in the use of GIS for health researchers in poor countries (the GHO project).
