    About

    Dr Tracey Lauriault is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Journalism and Communications, Communication Studies, Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.  Dr Lauriault received her PhD from Carlton University.  She is also Research Associate with the following two institutions; The Programmable City Project and The Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre.  Her research focus is part of a new field entitled Critical Data Studies, and her areas of interest are Data, infrastructures and geographical imaginations, spatial data infrastructures, open data and the preservation and access to research and geomatics data and Big Data.  She is also actively engaged in public policy research as it pertains to data and their related infrastructures.  Her ongoing research with the Programmable City Project is in the area of Political Arithmetic, Territorial Geometry and Programmed Cities.  For further information please visit Tracey Lauriault

    • Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Partnership Development Grant, 2011-2013, Mapping the Legal and Policy Boundaries of Digital Cartography, helped build the transdisciplinary partnership between the Centre for Law, Technology and Society (CLTS), The Canadian Internet Public Polity Interest Clinic (CIPPIC) at Ottawa University and the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Earth Science Sector, facilitated and contributed to the authoring of the proposal, currently engaged as the project’s post doctoral fellow ($199,000 GCRC).
    • Human Resources and Services Development Canada (HRSDC), Data Development Projects on Homelessness Program, Homelessness Knowledge Development Program, Homelessness Partnering Secretariat Grant, 2008-2009, Pilot Atlas of The Risk of Homelessness in Canadian Cities, helped build the multisectoral academic, private sector, NGO and city collaboration with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, City of Toronto, Grand Montréal and the City of Calgary, drafted the proposal, facilitated collaborations with cities, lead researcher in the research team that built the Atlas, ($50,000 GCRC).
    • SSHRC, Innovation on the New Economy Grant, 2002-2006, Cybercartography and the New Economy, assisted the Primary Investigator with the preparation of the Letter of Intent and the full proposal, coordinated the trandisciplinary component of the project, which included a flexible matrix organizational structure to integrate the research of 100 researchers in 7 disciplines, lead researcher on olfactory cartography and contributed to the literature on multisensory media, and managed the project’s documents and website, ($2,600,000 GCRC).
    • SSHRC, Major Collaborative Research Initiatives (MCRI) programme, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission and the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States, 2002-2007, International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES 2 Project), School of Library, Archival Information Studies, University of British Columbia, Vancouver.  Represented the GCRC on the Scientific Focus and the Accuracy, Reliability and Authenticity Cross-Domain, conducted and co-authored a Case Study and a General Study on the Archival Practices and Access Policies of Scientific Data Portals which included coordinating the work of 5 UBC research assistants, attended the one week national and international research work meetings in Vancouver, Chicago and Los Angeles.
    • City of Ottawa and the Trillium Foundation, 2000-2001, Community Information Mapping Systems of Ottawa (CIMSO), a joint initiative of the Social Planning Council of Ottawa (SPCO) and the Centre for the Study and Training Investment and Economic Restructuring (CSTIER), which was one of Canada’s earliest community mapping projects, it fostered data sharing and collaboration between the City of Ottawa, the SPCO and community based organizations, and it is now a mapping and data infrastructure, ($15,000 and $35,000).
