Welcome Message
Maynooth University School of Nursing: Where Caring Meets Competence and Innovation Shapes Practice.
I am delighted to welcome you to Maynooth University School of Nursing, the newest school of nursing in Ireland! We are excited as we set out on a journey to develop cutting edge and innovative programmes of education to prepare nurses to work across the span of healthcare settings. We see nurses as being integral members of society, working with individuals and communities wherever they may be located, promoting health and wellbeing, while also supporting those who are experiencing challenges to their health. Nursing has a long and proud history combining humanistic engagement and evidence-based intervention such that it uniquely bridges the art and science of care. Nurses are a critical component of health systems and with 29 million nurses worldwide, they form the largest single health care profession (WHO, 2024).
At Maynooth University, we aspire to be leaders in nursing education, responding to the changing healthcare environment, working collaboratively on this transformative journey, while seeking to ensure that each of our students thrives, and that through their endeavours as nurses, the health of our fellow humans will also thrive. As we prepare to launch our Bachelor of Science (Hons) in General Nursing, we invite you to consider studying with us in the dynamic and inclusive setting of Maynooth University. Driven by values of compassionate caring, collegiality, dignity and respect for diversity and innovation, we will prepare students to be nurses for today and for the future.
Vision
Our vision for the Maynooth University School of Nursing is grounded a belief that nursing can shape healthcare provision and that a caring, educated, competent and highly skilled nursing workforce is central to that. It is predicated on greater stakeholder participation so as to ensure optimal outcomes for patients, healthcare, nurses, service, and society. The vision is built on four Key Pillars: Cutting-Edge Curriculum; Inclusive Pathways; Clinical Excellence; and Visionary Staff.
