Dr Lebech describes the focus of her research thusly: "Although human dignity has been widely discussed in the West in the past thirty years, it remains controversial in the absence of a deep understanding of what it actually means, despite its central importance to international law. This project aims to include Central and Eastern European sources in the conceptualisation history of human dignity to explore and contextualise contemporary controversies about the meaning and relevance of human dignity."
