Physics students win awards at national and international conferences

Students from the Department of Physics had great success presenting their work at conferences over the past two weeks.

Undergraduate student Jake Feeney presented a poster on his study of the James Webb Space Telescope's Little Red Dots at the Irish National Astronomy Meeting held at University College Galway. He won the Best Student Poster prize at the confrerence. Jake's work was completed during the a summer SPUR placement in the Department of Physics supervised by Dr. John Regan and Dr. Paddy Kavanagh.

Postgraduate student Matthew Birney won the Best Student Poster prize at the 'Jets and Young Stars' conference, held in Mulranny, Co. Mayo. Matthew presented his PhD research on outflows from young stars which are still being formed using the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope. He is supervised by Dr. Emma Whelan.
