The University acknowledges that a student may experience unexpected or serious difficulties which could prevent them from meeting the requirements of their programme.
To address this, there are a small number of areas where the University Marks and Standards allow extenuating circumstances to be taken into consideration.

- Concurrent registrations
- Extension to the 2-year rule
- Extension requests (for taught postgraduate programmes only, thesis or project modules only)
- Permission to repeat modules which have been passed
- Split year
- Students applying to progress with a deficit after the release of ratified exam results (i.e. seeking an AP (allow progress) result in a subject
