- Algorithm: A set of mathematical or logical operations used by computers to carry out a defined task.
- Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a theoretical AI that could mimic human intelligence, including the ability to learn, understand, and apply this to an array of different activities. This contrasts with traditional forms of AI, which perform specific functions. It is important to note that Generative AI is not AGI.
- Copyrighted: Material for which copyright has been obtained, meaning it is the intellectual property of another.
- Hallucination: These occur when GenAI produces a non-existent pattern (e.g. object, text). For example, a chatbot produces text that appears authoritative but is factually incorrect.
- Large Language Model(s) (LLM(s) : are text-based Generative AI. These are ‘trained’ on a vast amount of human writing. While this includes sources such as digitised books and Wikipedia, the bulk of the material is ‘scraped’ from the internet. ‘Scraping’ means automated extraction of large amounts of data from websites and online platforms. In some instances, this includes re-using copyrighted data, personal data, and anything publicly available on the internet. During this ‘training’ process, a ‘neural network’ is produced from which the LLM produces text. Following this training, the model’s output is fine-tuned by humans.
