Deirdre FitzPatrick, Project Manager of College Connect was invited to showcase the project's work in widening participation of underrepresented groups in higher education at a QQI workshop on 20 November 2024 focused on building momentum towards a unified tertiary system.
The workshop brought senior leaders from both further and higher education together to discuss intermediate qualification at NFQ Levels 5 and 6, a revised QQI Access, Transfer and Progression (ATP) Policy and the proposed change to the Common Awards System (CAS).
The College Connect Community Needs Analysis with Further Education & Training students was particularly relevant and the attendees were keen to hear more about the Regional Model of Access and these specific recommendations for FE students:
- HEIs should expand strategic partnerships with FE colleges.
- Revision of CAO points allocation for FET.
- Learning-partnership activity between HEIs and FE colleges to build parity of esteem.
