Turn to Teaching, a flagship initiative of Maynooth University, and spearheaded by the Department of Adult and Community Education, have been shortlisted for the AONTAS star award. This award recognises innovative adult education programmes which are tackling social inclusion. Since its beginning, in January 2018, Turn to Teaching has worked with 25 students on the Foundation Course for Initial Teacher Education, 40 young adults in the DEIS system and 20 teachers who have progressed to teaching through the DEIS system. The programme is supporting the leaners to explore the teaching profession through a combination of mainstream and adult education pedagogies, placing the learners voice at the heart of educational uplift. The winners will be announced in a ceremony in Dublin Castle on the 05th of March.
