As manager of the BA Local Studies/BA Community Studies (MH803) for the past fifteen years it has fallen to me to announce that the programme is being discontinued in its current format. I want to thank everyone from all of the different academic departments, the Course Management Team, and administration offices involved for their time and effort in making this very special programme work. Thanks also to all of the students who have made this a really vibrant learning space, there’s been more than a few lecturers down the years who have told me how much they enjoyed their time teaching on these degrees and how energised they felt at the end of each class having usually learned something during the class themselves.
There will be NO New Intake of students on MH803 in Sept. 2025 and the programme has been removed from the CAO. The programme will continue for current MH803 students.
In its place a new degree that will give people more options by adding a third qualification the BA in Adult, Community and Further Education is due to commence in Sept. 2026.
This new Flexible Part-time Bachelor of Arts (Level 8) delivered by the Department of Adult and Community Education in conjunction with a number of other academic departments will offer students modules in the evenings, at weekends and online, and provide access to a selection of daytime modules (optional).
In Sept. 2026 students will be able to register for:
- BA Local History, Cultural Heritage and Environment.
- BA in Equality and Community Studies.
- BA in Adult, Community and Further Education.
Further information will follow but the Dept. of Adult and Community Education is very excited about the prospects for these new degrees to afford adults the opportunity to study in university at a time compatible with their own circumstances.
Watch this space for further updates.
