Irish and Catalan: A comparison of the status, threats and challenges of the two languages

Monday, April 24, 2023 - 16:00
MSU Venue

All are welcome to attend the discussion "Irish and Catalan: A comparison of the status, threats and challenges of the two languages/ An Ghaeilge agus an Chatalóinis: comparáid idir stádas, bagairtí agus dúshláin an dá theanga".
This event will be a conversation in English between Richard Huddleson (Postdoc in Catalan at UCD) and Róisín Ní Chinnéide (Conrad na Gaeilge) about the status of both languages from a sociolinguistic perspective.

The event will take place in the MSU Venue, and not in a regular classroom, because we want to give the event a certain informal atmosphere, closer to the students, since we are also taking the opportunity to celebrate Sant Jordi, probably the most important Catalan celebration of the year. In Sant Jordi (April 23) we give our loved ones books and roses (you spend months thinking in what book you'll give to every person!), so we'll be ready to celebrate the date properly. We'll also enjoy the presence of a musician who will sing us some songs, in Irish and Catalan, to close the event.

Everyone's welcome! Organizers will be very happy to have you at the event and share it with anyone who may want to attend.
