    Biography

    Joanne Masterson, PhD obtained her BSc and PhD degrees from Maynooth University. She subsequently moved abroad to complete her postdoctoral training and fellowships (2014) and became an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Denver, Colorado, USA. She was appointed Assistant Professor in Maynooth University’s Department of Biology in 2018, is the Principal Investigator of the Allergy, Inflammation and Remodelling Research (AIRR) lab and is a member of the Kathleen Lonsdale Institute for Human Health Research. In 2019 Dr Masterson was awarded the Science Foundation President of Ireland Future Research Leaders Award.

    Research Interests

    Joanne Masterson, PhD is the Principal Investigator of the Allergy, Inflammation and Remodeling Research (AIRR) lab. She has a long-standing interest in defining novel mechanisms of mucosal inflammation. Her research has investigated the eosinophils contribution to epithelial cell biology and tissue remodeling. Her studies have identified novel mechanisms, that include hypoxia, metabolism, microRNAs, mechanobiological,novel cytokine and fibrotic mediators through which allergic and mucosal diseases such as Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) develop.
