Dr Tugce Bidav is a Postdoctoral Researcher based in the Department of Sociology and is a member of the Maynooth Social Sciences Research Institute (MUSSI) at Maynooth University (MU).
Tugce is working on the HEA/North/South Research funded project YouGAMSI (with Prof. Aphra Kerr & Prof. John O'Brennan, MU and Dr. Paul Kitchin, UU). This project aims to assess the exposure of young people to gambling marketing through sport across broadcast and social media on the island of Ireland.
Prior to this role, she was an Assistant Lecturer in Department of Media Studies at MU wherein she taught across the BA in Media Studies and the MA in Critical and Creative Media on subjects such as media and cultural theory, media and gender, and media publics.
She holds a PhD in Media Studies (2023) from Maynooth University. Her dissertation received the Association of Internet Researchers 2023 Dissertation Award for its significant contributions to the field of internet research, addressing the theme of digital labour through the lens of marginalised cases, and with innovative mixed methods approach that spans multiple disciplines. Her research focuses on platformed cultural production, creator cultures, and digital labour. She explores how creative digital labour practices of social media content creators are localised depending on geographic specificities of media production in Ireland and Turkey.
