    Biography

    Ralf Bierig joined the Computer Science Department of Maynooth University in September 2017 where he teaches a wide range of computer science topics including information retrieval, software testing, and interaction design, and virtual reality. He has previously taught research methods, data mining, artificial intelligence, and other data science relevant subjects. He is the programme director of the newly developed Higher Diploma in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX). 

    His research interests range from information retrieval (IR), interactive information retrieval (IIR), personalisation and information search behaviour to usability (UX) and virtual reality (VR).

    He received his BSc (Hons) from the University of Furtwangen (Germany) in Computer Science in 2002 and his PhD from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen (UK) in 2008. He worked as a PostDoc at Rutgers University in the Information and Library Science Department. He gained industrial experience as a senior IT consultant in the automotive industry of South Germany before returning back to academia in 2013. He joined the Vienna University of Technology as a senior post-doctoral researcher where he also lectured in Information Retrieval and Search Systems. He gave visiting lectures and seminars in the Czech Republic and in Thailand.

    His research interests range from information retrieval (IR), interactive information retrieval (IIR), personalisation and information search behaviour to usability (UX) and virtual reality (VR).
