International Office launches new pre-sessional English-language programmes

Led by Mark Hennessy and under the auspices of the School of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures, this summer will see the launch of ten- and five -week pre-sessional English-language programmes.

The ten-week programme will run from 2 July – 7 September whilst the five-week programme will run from 7 August – 7 September. The programmes, open to both incoming undergraduate and postgraduate students, are planned to support students who have a conditional offer as they have achieved Maynooth University admissions criteria in all respects except a slight shortfall in language.
The programmes are designed by Mr. Hennessy and will culminate in an IELTS-type exam, designed, administered and assessed by Maynooth University instructors.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students will take classes together of twenty hours a week with an aim to increase by the equivalent of 0.5 IELTS band over the ten-week programme. The five-week programme is designed to support students who have achieved their overall IELTS score requirement but want some additional language preparation, particularly in reading and writing.
An additional cohort of students from CCZU, our largest-standing partnership in China, will take a 5-week tailored programme.
