Professor Philip Nolan, President of Maynooth University, was presented with an early printed work at the launch of the Gerard Manley Hopkins 30th International Festival on Friday, 21 July at Newbridge College. Bruno Gaurier, a regular attendee at the annual Hopkins Festival and visitor to the Russell Library, presented the work Concordantiae majores sacrae Bibliae summis vigiliis jam denuo ultra omnes editions castigatae, printed in Lyon by Sébastien Gryphe in 1540 with ‘sincere best wishes and respect’ to President Philip Nolan and the Russell Library. The work features the Griffin printer’s device of Sébastien Gryphe(c.1492-1556), renowned bookseller and printer in Lyon in the 1540s.
