Piano Études in the Modern Era: Beyond Conventional Virtuosity
Taking the nineteenth-century piano étude as point of departure, this seminar examines pianistic studies written in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. With a demonstration of some the high-octane virtuosic études written by composers of our time, pianist and Maynooth University artist-in-residence Mei Yi Foo considers how the transcendental virtuosity historically associated with the étude manifests itself in the present.
