Krassimira Daskalova is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Arts and Humanities Institute, Maynooth University. A native of Bulgaria, and a pioneer in Bulgarian Gender Studies, she assisted in founding the academic discipline from the early 1990s and has published extensively in the field. Professor Daskalova has been editor of L'Homme: European Journal of Feminist History (2003-11), co-editor of Aspasia since 2007, and President of the International Federation for Research in Women’s History (2005-10). Her book, Women, gender and modernization in Bulgaria, 1878-1944 (Sofia, 2012), explores the topic of sexuality and prostitution, which had not previously been evaluated in Bulgaria's history.
