Call for Contemporary Dance Artist in Residence

Thursday, December 12, 2013 - 09:00 to Tuesday, December 17, 2013 - 12:00
Froebel Department

The Froebel Department, Maynooth University, offers experiential learning in dance education through the Bachelor of Education and Higher Diploma in Education. The department demonstrates a strong commitment to facilitating engagement with various arts education experiences, in the development of professional primary educators. Froebel Department Maynooth University, in association with The Arts Council of Ireland and Kildare County Council Arts Service, is now seeking to appoint a dance artist/ensemble from January-December 2014. It is envisaged that the residency may extend into 2015 and beyond.

The integration of a College of Education into a university campus marks a historical time for the Froebel Department, and it is envisaged that this residency will celebrate this transition through the exploration of a connected theme. Experience of working in collaborative practice is essential and an appreciation of the primary school dance curriculum desirable. The three strands of the residency are Exploring Dance, Understanding and Appreciating Dance and Performance.

The successful artist/ensemble will be invited to facilitate an initial dance-intensive experience in the form of a series of performance and workshop encounters for Froebel Department staff and Maynooth University students from the end of March 2014 to the middle of April 2014. It is expected that the selected artist/ensemble will need to be available for day and evening slots during this period, and for other agreed planning and teaching periods throughout the year.
The funding available is €15,000 per annum via a contract for services.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 17 December, 2013. (All applications via email to: triona.stokes@mu.ie followed by a hard copy to the address above marked Dance Residency).

The appointed artist/ensemble will be Garda vetted and must have appropriate insurance cover in place in advance of the residency commencing. Interviews are expected to take place in January, 2014
