Congratulations to Jamie Gorman, Department of Applied Social Studies on the successful defence of his PhD thesis yesterday. "Jumping scales and influencing outcomes: A case study of community development for environmental justice" is a study of Love Leitrim, a rural community group that campaigned successfully against extraction of shale gas by hydraulic fracturing (fracking). The case study is a significant contribution to critical community work theory and practice in the context of structural injustices that often reside at the heart of environmental conflicts. His supervisors were Dr Hilary Tierney and Dr Oonagh Mc Ardle. Jamie has worked with Maynooth Green Campus in furthering its climate justice work, especially during Social Justice Week, and during the Paris COP21 conference in 2015.
Well done Dr Jamie!, Dr Joe Larragy
