The Criminology of Policing Protests, Riots and Civil Disorder

On Wednesday, 9 April at 3:00 pm, the  School of Law and Criminology Research Centre for Criminology is excited to host a keynote lecture by Professor Ed Maguire, professor of criminology at Arizona State University, on the criminology of policing protests, riots, and civil disorder.

Research Centre for Criminology, Co-Deputy Director Dr. Ciara Bracken-Roche and Centre member Dr. Cian Ó Concubhair will respond and discuss recent developments in regard to policing policy and tactics in Ireland that were reactions to the 2023 Dublin riot.

Professor Maguire, one of the foremost scholarly experts on the relationship between police forces and civil protesters, will reflect on the 2023 Dublin riot and 2024 United Kingdom riots and offer recommendations for An Garda Síochána's policies moving forward.
