Speaker: Professor Dominique Reill (University of Miami & Iméra Institute for Advanced Study, Aix-Marseille University)

Dominique Kirchner Reill (University of Miami) specializes in Modern European history with particular emphases on the nineteenth century, post-World War I Europe, post-World War II Europe, the Habsburg Empire, Italy, the Balkans, migration, nationalism, as well as socio-cultural and intellectual history. She received her Ph.D. with Distinction from Columbia University in 2007.
Her first book, Nationalists Who Feared the Nation: Adriatic Multi-Nationalism in Habsburg Dalmatia, Trieste, and Venice, published by Stanford University Press in 2012, was awarded the Center for Austrian Studies’ Book Award and Honorable Mention from the Smith Award. Her next book, The Fiume Crisis: Life in the Wake of the Habsburg Empire, was published in 2020 by Harvard University’s Belknap Press and received an Honorable Mention from the Jelavich Book Prize.
Currently residential Fulbright-IMéRA-Aix-Marseille Université Chair in Migration Studies, Professor Reill is working on her next book-length manuscript tentatively titled The Habsburg Mayor of New York: Fiorello LaGuardia.
