With Christmas just around the corner, now is the time to make sure your Christmas ‘Switch Off’ List is sorted and you’re ready to put it into action. Then we can all have a merry Christmas that doesn’t cost the Earth.
Look at this week’s energy exercise, and make sure you’ve got reminders to switch off before you head off!
Energy Exercise of the Week:
With the cost of energy higher than ever, waste is a serious issue, and the climate crisis is a major global challenge. Before you take off for Christmas, do a once-over and make sure that all non-essential equipment has been switched off, reducing emissions and controlling the bill. Unplug equipment if possible and if safe to do so.
Remember, anything we can safely switch off before leaving work will also help shave off the peak electricity demand (ESB) from 5-7 pm.
Agree with your colleagues who will switch off communal office equipment or shared kitchen appliances.
- Pin up your list in a prominent position, or consider a digital calendar reminder to ensure that you check off all your items.
- Have a final look around and see what can be safely switched off AND/OR unplugged.
With everyone’s help, we can ensure we are one step ahead for the New Year.
Note: Always comply with health and safety regulations.
