MUSSI Fellowship Talk Series - Migration culture with Dr. Vilmantė Kumpikaitė-Valiūnienė

Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute together with Maynooth University School of Business welcome Dr. Vilmantė Kumpikaitė-Valiūnienė for our first MUSSI fellowship seminar of 2022.

The seminar focusses on research on Migration culture. It will be presented the main emergence of a culture of migration through outward migration as a country-specific phenomenon and analyzes it from different perspectives, covering various aspects such as the history of a country in relation to social, economic, and political issues, its migration flows, migration push and pull factors, as well as individual values in the case of Lithuania. Additionally, results of empirical study of migrants' willingness to work virtually for the home country will be presented. 

Vilmantė Kumpikaitė-Valiūnienė is a Professor of Human Resource Management in the School of Economics and Business, a member of the Digitalization Research group and a leader of the International Migration Research cluster at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania. Her major fields of scientific research include international human resource management, especially migration and self-initiated expatriation. She was a leader of the scientific projects “Research into Migration Culture in Independent Lithuania: 1990-2018” and “Adjustment of Expatriates in the Baltic States”. She has delivered 12 keynote presentations about migration and expatriation in international conferences. The MUSSI Fellowship Scheme began in the 2019/2020 academic year and was designed to enhance the research community of the University by fostering collaboration between Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute Visiting Fellows and academic staff at Maynooth University.
