Congratulations to Andrew Meehan, BSc Product Design graduate, who has won an international award for his design to reduce people suffering muscle loss while wearing a cast.

Andrew won first prize in the Designing Healthy Future category at the international Cumulus Green awards for his design, named "Curo" - a retrofitted cast system with inbuilt electro-muscle stimulants to help reduce muscle loss by up to 20%.

His design was up against 270 other designs from across the world.

Andrew said he is "honoured to be included in the group of finalists, let alone first place".

"I went to Tullamore College and as far as choosing Product Design.. it was my guidance counsellor, Ann MacNamara who mentioned the course to me. However, it was a multitude of teachers (at MU) (John Paul Meehan (Engineering), Noreen Flynn (Physics)) who allowed me to work on being creative, allowing me to explore problems and understand problems more so than others."
