Maynooth University Research Cluster, ‘Identities, Diversities, Values’, in conjunction with Illuminations Gallery, Maynooth University English Department, and Boston College is hosting the internationally renowned artist, psychoanalyst and theorist Bracha Ettinger for an art exhibition and a conference comprising master classes, seminars and lectures.
A member of Faculty at the European Graduate School, Ettinger’s work has been exhibited at the Pompidou Centre, MOMA and the Freud Museum. Her theoretical work on the ‘matrixial’, which is a repositioning of the mother within critical thinking is considered to have opened a new field of enquiry into subjectivity and to have extended the work of influential international philosophers and psychoanalysts Julia Kristeva and Luce Irigaray. Ettinger Studies is a growing and influential field at the crossroads of aesthetics, psychoanalysis and philosophy.
An Exhibition of Ettinger's work called Demeter Eurydice Medusa-Butterfly will be shown at Illuminations Gallery from 8th October to October 24th. Professor Ettinger will open this exhibition at 7.00pm in the Iontas building, Maynooth University.
