Research is an important aspect of our mission. Guided by our research beacons, we aim to add value to the business community and wider economy by addressing topical issues and challenges and providing research-informed, actionable insights. Our research informs our teaching and inspires students.

The School of Business is a home to a vibrant international community of research-active faculty. Broadly speaking, our research seeks to offer insights into the drivers of performance and analyses the impact of the interactions among different agents operating within the world of business – from individuals within organisations, to groups in organisations, organisations as a whole, to their ecosystems, markets, and regulation.

We believe that business is about solving problems and that rarely, if ever, does the solution come from one person or one disciplinary perspective. Therefore, our faculty approaches these research themes from different perspectives and engages in conversations and collaborations across different functional disciplines, e.g., Management, Management Information Systems, Human Resources, Management & Organisational Behaviour, International Business, Operations & Supply Chain, Marketing, Strategy & Innovation, Finance and Accounting. Our faculty regularly publish in the most visible and high-quality peer reviewed journals in the world and speak at international research conferences, as well as at practitioner events. Check out the most recent publications and presentations in our news feed.

We regularly run a Research Seminar Series where our faculty share insights from their ongoing projects. Everyone is welcome to attend!

We offer structured PhD programmes in Business & Management, Accounting, and Finance, that provide the framework for supporting the School’s PhD students’ research endeavours and to enable our PhD students to contribute to scholarly debates in their fields of interest. Research Beacons

Focusing on ‘beacons’ of research excellence, the School of Business concentrates on defined research areas, using interdisciplinary research and strategic funding alignment. The beacons help organise and promote research activities and collaborations. They are designed to bring together researchers from various disciplines to consider complex problems and encourage a holistic and collaborative approach to tackling grand challenges. It is also important to highlight that our faculty have academic freedom in their research and those who choose to pursue research that fits outside of the research beacons, are supported to do so.

Research Beacon Leads

Each research beacon within the School of Business is supported by a Beacon Lead who acts in a leadership position for those with research interests that fall under their beacon, fostering collaboration and championing the work of their colleagues.
