Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning

    The Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Tutors and Demonstrators is a 5 credit module offered to Maynooth University postgraduate research students with tutoring/demonstrating or teaching assistant roles within their departments. It offers participants an opportunity to gain, or build on, knowledge, skills and confidence in teaching, facilitating and supporting student learning in a range of contexts.

    Eligibility criteria:

    • You must be a registered postgraduate research student who has tutoring, demonstrating or teaching assistant responsibilities during the semester within which you take the module.
    • The reflective and practical nature of the teaching, learning and assessment approaches of the module requires that you have adequate tutor/demonstrator/teaching hours to allow you to engage in the learning and fulfil the module learning outcomes. It is therefore essential that if you are applying for this module you can confirm that you have a minimum of 9 tutor/demonstrator/teaching assistant hours across the duration of the module.
    • You must have approval from your Head of Department or Research Supervisor to participate in the module.
    • You must be available to attend all sessions in person. This module will be delivered on Wednesdays between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon in the School of Education, Room SE003.  Successful applicants will receive a full schedule prior to starting the module.

     
    Selection process:

    The module runs for one semester with 20 places available per semester. In the event that this module is oversubscribed, the following selection criteria will be used:

    • Each class has a mix of disciplines to enhance the learning opportunities and offer fairness across the departments.
    • Preference will be given to applicants in the latter stages of their programme.
    • Places will be offered on a first come first served basis where the previous two criteria are applied.

    Please note that applicants apply directly to the Centre for Teaching & Learning, via the online form supplied at the opening of applications.
    Once the selection process has been completed and successful applicants have accepted their places on the module, the Centre for Teaching & Learning will liase with Registration to register participants for the module.
