Irish Member of the European Security and Defence College
The Kennedy Institute is the Irish member of the European Security and Defence College. The European Security and Defence College (ESDC) was established on 18 July 2005 with the adoption of EU Council Joint Action 2005/575/CFSP. The Kennedy Institute is a member of the Executive Academic Board of the ESDC.
A three-tier structure is established to carry out the tasks of the ESDC. A Steering Committee, composed of one representative of each Member State and chaired by the Member State holding the EU Presidency is responsible for the overall coordination and guidance of the College. An Executive Academic Board is responsible for the annual academic programme and is composed of senior representatives from the EU ISS and the national Institutes. A Permanent Secretariat assists the Steering Committee and the Executive Board.
