We are very pleased to extend our congratulations to Ms Christine Mulligan, one of our second year (BA) undergraduate students who was awarded a prestigious Summer Student Scholarship by the Health Research Board (www.hrb.ie) in June of this year. Christine is working under the joint supervision of Dr Kathleen McLoughlin and Dr Sinéad McGilloway of the MHSRU (www.mhsru.com). Christine was one of only 42 students across the country (out of a total of 141 applicants) who was successful in this scheme (with an overall success rate of approx.30%).
Christine is completing an 8-week study of a unique advanced communication and skills training course run since 2008 by Milford Care Centre (MCC), specialists in evidence-based palliative and end of life care (www.milfordcarecentre.ie). This course aims to educate and provide healthcare professionals with strategies to enhance their ability to respond to patients’ concerns and deal effectively with potentially difficult conversations. The final report is currently being prepared and the team have had a paper accepted for presentation at this year’s Annual Psychological Society of Ireland Conference in Athlone in November.
Congratulations to the team on their success!
