With the growth of AI and digital marketing, Elaine is currently exploring how both consumers and employees can co-create value with disruptive technologies. In this seminar, results are presented from a new study of US consumers which investigates the impact of AI influencers on social media behaviours. Opportunities for further research and potential research collaborations will be explored. |

24 Apr 24 | Professor Brian Donnellan, Maynooth University School of Business | Academic – Practitioner Collaborative Research Projects: Reflections and Suggestions
The discipline of Information Systems (IS) has been considered to have certain failings in its effort to impact on practice. There have been numerous research studies identifying failures in IS in its attempts to achieve desired outcomes and disappointments in assessments of return on investment. The analyses in these studies often yield recommendations that operate at a high level of abstraction and lack the detail and specificity to lead to action-oriented solutions. Such findings, while offered in a constructive spirit of helpfulness and concern for continuous improvement, do little to advance either (i) the capability of practitioners to achieve their goals or (ii) the theoretical knowledge underpinning Information System academic research. In this presentations I will present some reflections from my experience with academic practitioner collaborative research projects and provide some suggestions for future work in the area. |
9 May 24 | Dr Thomas Flavin, Associate Professor in Finance, Maynooth University School of Business | Hedging Commodity Price Risk with Green Bonds.
Agricultural commodity price risk is a significant threat for many economies, especially those in the developing world. Climate shocks and other natural disasters influence the prices of these commodities, but these factors are largely outside the control of producers, leaving them vulnerable to such phenomena. The emergence of green bonds, whose proceeds are ringfenced to fund projects that are deemed to be environmentally friendly, to promote sustainable business practices or to be socially responsible, offers a financial instrument with the potential to diversify the risk faced by these producers. We examine the relationships between a range of agricultural products and a green bond index across different market conditions to assess, (1) the hedging effectiveness of the green bond; and (2) the stability of linkages during commodity price collapses. |
