We have a vibrant research culture, which includes a research colloquium that takes place fortnightly during the semester, and an active Research Committee who update the School on current national and international research activity.

Dr Zhouxiang Lu ranked among the World’s Top 2% Researchers
Leading Expert in Chinese Studies and Global Sports Culture at Maynooth University

 
We are very proud to share that Dr Zhouxiang Lu from the Maynooth University School of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures has been included in the prestigious Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientist Rankings.
Dr Lu is a world-leading expert on nationalism, national identity, sport history, and cultural history in the Chinese context, and he has published extensively in these fields. His recent publications include The Routledge Handbook of Nationalism in East and Southeast Asia (2023), A History of Competitive Gaming (2022), Chinese National Identity in the Age of Globalisation (2020), A History of Shaolin: Buddhism, Kung Fu and Identity (2019), and Politics and Identity in Chinese Martial Arts (2018).
