The Maynooth University Intersectionality Working Group is hosting the annual Intersectionality Lecture on Monday 25th April 2022 at 2pm.
Our speaker for this online event is Dr Abayomi Ogunsanya. Dr Ogunsanya will deliver a talk entitled: 'At Risk at Home and Abroad: Intersectional Experience of Race, Disability and Social Isolation in Ireland's Direct Provision System'.
Dr Abayomi Ogunsanya is currently employed by Nasc, the migrant and refugee rights centre in Cork, working on their research project, ‘Ending Direct Provision? One Year On’. He holds a PhD degree in Anthropology from University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and has taught there and at Osun State University, Nigeria. He was an African Humanities Program Postdoctoral Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2018 and Cadbury Research Fellow, University of Birmingham, UK in 2016. In 2018 he was forced to move to Ireland and placed in Direct Provision with his family. He chose to turn these years into participant observation research into the experience of asylum seekers in Ireland, and his book documenting this research, an ethnographic account of the system of Direct Provision, is nearing completion.
