Maynooth University Library is at present hosting an exhibition entitled ‘Burning the Country House, 1920-23’, curated by Professor Terence Dooley of the History Department. This exhibition, based on Terence Dooley’s widely-acclaimed new book entitled Burning the Big House: the Story of the Irish Country House in War and Revolution 1912-23 reveals the experiences of the Irish landed aristocracy during the revolutionary period of the War of Independence and Civil War, as seen through the prism of the malicious destruction of hundreds of their Big Houses. The Exhibition is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. It will run in the Library until 5th August 2022.
