Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee

The Maynooth University Office of the Vice President for EDI is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community that upholds equality, respects human rights, and celebrates diversity among students and staff.
 
The Faculty of Science and Engineering Committee on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is set as an advisory body to the Faculty. Its role is to discuss matters of EDI that concern units within the Faculty. It will assist the Dean in bringing proposals and recommendations to the general Faculty meetings that relate to EDI matters. It will also collaborate with its counterparts in the other Faculties, the relevant Academic Council or Governing Authority committees, and the Office of the Vice-President for Equality and Diversity. 

Faculty EDI Committee Terms of Reference

The remit of this Faculty of Science and Engineering Committee on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, reporting to and subject to oversight and review by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, is to: 
Promote and encourage excellence in Equality Diversity and Inclusion in the Faculty, through establishing and maintaining uniformly high levels of review, training and awareness of EDI and non-discrimination practices for staff and students; 

Align its efforts with national policies, such as the HEA gender policies and action plan (https://hea.ie/policy/gender/gender-equality/), consideration and communication of the implications of national policies and external recommendations to Faculty and departments; 

Review, propose, and provide input to Faculty decisions on training, raising awareness, and the consistent application of policy and practices concerning EDI (MU EDI policies https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/edi/edi-policies); 

Recommend to the Dean actions supporting achievement, development, review, communication and promotion of the EDI related aspects of the University & Faculty Strategic Plan. This may include alerting the Faculty to actions and opportunities that might assist or hinder the implementation of the Strategic Plan, and identifying emerging areas for strategic EDI development; 

Liaise with the University Vice President EDI Office, National Centre of Excellence for Inclusive Higher Education and University Equality Charter Working Groups in the area of EDI and other appropriate offices, committees or working groups of the University to represent the interests of members of the Faculty and promote the visibility of EDI principles and practices.
