Maynooth University invites members of the public to a variety of talks, exhibitions and workshops on some of the pressing challenges of our time during Research Week 2024. This is an opportunity to discover the range of multi-disciplinary research at MU and its impact across the globe.
Academics and students from the faculties of Science and Engineering, Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences will open their world to colleagues and the public with a week-long series of events and exhibitions, from Monday, October 21 to Thursday, October 24.
Research Week 2024 kicks off with a live 3D printing demonstration in the foyer of the John Paul II Library on Monday and an interactive AI health event, offering participants a chance to explore artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies to manage health and wellbeing.
For Lego lovers, the MU Library will host on the creation of a Lego version of MU’s beloved Library Cat in its Makerspace, which highlights how research can be supported in fun and innovative ways. The Lego version of Library Cat will be on display in the foyer of the MU Library throughout Research Week.
On Thursday, Prof Jan vom Brocke delivers the inaugural Distinguished International Collaborator lecture where he introduces Process Science as an emerging interdisciplinary field to advance the capabilities of digital service innovation in times of change.

Ogham Project pop-up stand
When: Tuesday, October 22, 14:30 to 15:30
Where: John Paul II Library
What: Display of a replica of the early medieval ogham stone from Donaghmore, Maynooth, by Prof David Stifter, Head of School of Celtic Studies, and launch of the OG(H)AM project video featuring MU’s Department of Early Irish and the Department of Celtic and Gaelic, University of Glasgow.
How to accelerate the circular transition in the construction sector?
When: Tuesday, October 22, 15:00 to 16:30
Where: Online
What: This online webinar brings together leaders and experts in circularity in construction to address the challenges and opportunities for transitioning from a typical linear economy based on the "take, make, dispose" concept to a circular economy that is more sustainable and resource-efficient.
Emerging research in Law and Criminology
When: Wednesday, October 23, 12:00 to 15:00
Where: John Hume Boardroom
What: The School of Law and Criminology hosts a showcase of PhD research, spanning a wide variety of topics. PhD candidates will present for 15 minutes each followed by a short Q&A session.All events are open to the public but some may require registration in advance.
