The inspiration for this focus area came from her grandmother who has received 3 knee replacement surgeries. Connect is a self-assisted rehabilitation system that offers patients a user-controlled recovery after replacement surgeries. Utilizing interchangeable resistance bands, patients assess and build strength pre-op, and can track progress through a color-coded system post-op. By progressing through the different colours of the bands from light to heavy resistance, patients can build up the routine and build muscle memory pre-op.
This engages patients aiding caregivers in monitoring progress. The design follows many universal design principles for example equitable use: The design allows for all patients to use as they see fit in a safe way.
