The School of Law and Criminology are thrilled to announce that two remarkable alums, Adam O’Carroll and Princess Khumalo, have been named joint recipients of the Oxfam Alum Award 2024. This prestigious accolade celebrates their outstanding commitment to justice, equality, and social responsibility.

Adam O’Carroll, a recent LLB graduate and distinguished member of the Class of 2024, has made an indelible mark through his service-oriented approach to legal education. From his active involvement in the student Law Society, the Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC), and St. Vincent de Paul, to leading transformative initiatives like Maynooth’s first Period Poverty campaign, Adam has consistently demonstrated a profound dedication to serving vulnerable communities. Through countless hours spent volunteering in student legal clinics and advocating for equitable representation, Adam has embodied the core values of justice and compassion. His work has not only earned him this esteemed recognition but also established him as a promising leader in the legal profession.

Princess Khumalo, an accomplished graduate of both the LLB and LLM in International Justice programs at Maynooth University, currently serves as a Garda staff member in the Human Rights Section under the Crime Legal Unit. Her work is focused on promoting equality and protecting individuals from discrimination. In addition to her professional contributions, Princess has pursued further education in Policing and Human Rights Law at the University of Limerick and Jurisprudence with the King’s Inns. Her leadership extends beyond her career, having served as a team leader with Foroige, where she mentored young people from diverse backgrounds, fostering a culture of inclusion and resilience. Princess is also the recipient of a prestigious Sanctuary Scholarship, enabling her to advance her knowledge and advocacy through higher education. Her impressive achievements and unyielding dedication to justice and mentorship make her a true role model for aspiring legal professionals.

The School of Law and Criminology is immensely proud of Adam and Princess for their achievements and contributions. Both exemplify the spirit of service, leadership, and justice that are at the heart of Maynooth University’s mission.
