Language Day for Secondary School Students

On 23 January 2025, Chinese Studies successfully hosted a vibrant Language Day event to promote Chinese language learning. Over 70 students from Confey Community College and Kishoge Community College participated, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Chinese language and culture.

The event was led by a dedicated team of Chinese Studes staff members, including Dr. Yinya Liu, Dr. Zhouxiang Lu, Ms. Dan Zhang, and Ms. Xiaohan Zheng, alongside student ambassador Ms. Tabitha Mbemba. Dr. Zhouxiang Lu opened the event with an engaging overview of the Chinese Studies program offered by the School of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. He also highlighted the opportunities available to students interested in pursuing Chinese at the university level.

Ms. Tabitha Mbemba followed with a personal account of her experience studying Chinese at Maynooth University, offering the audience valuable insights into the joys and benefits of learning Chinese language and culture. Next, Ms. Dan Zhang delivered an interactive session on Chinese characters, captivating the audience with a fascinating exploration of their history and intricate structure.

Adding a cultural highlight, Ms. Xiaohan Zheng performed on the guzheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument, showcasing the elegance and beauty of Chinese classical music.

The visiting students from Confey Community College and Kishoge Community College also presented lively singing and dancing performances that demonstrated their enthusiasm for Chinese language and culture.
